Manx Mountain Bike Club’s 2008/9 Handicap Series

The Manx Mountain Bike Club’s 2008/9 Handicap Series took place on Sunday at Archallegan Plantation in perfect conditions.  Riding the new Specialised Epic Julian Corlett set a blistering pace and was in a class of his own until his tyre exploded and put him out of the race.  Ronan O’Toole took over the lead with Graham Hughes pushing him hard in 2nd place.  Martin Bonser swapping his single speed bike for gears took 3rd place.  Julie Lyness was first female across the line with a great performance considering she is recovering from a broken wrist, with Alicia Corlett 2nd female rider.

Race Numbers for 2009

As we have quite a few race numbers left over for 2008 and the need to keep costs
down in the new year, we have decided to continue using the 2008 race numbers into 2009.
All memberships will lapse at the end of this year so you will have to renew as normal
(membership form will be posted on the site once final details have been sorted) but you will
be given the same number.  New membership cards will be issued for 2009. If your race
number is unusable, please bring it along to the next event and we will exchange it for a new
one for £1.  Please remember that numbers must not be cut down or altered. No times will be
recorded for dodgy numbers!

Racing at Archallagan - Sunday 16th November

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS OF JUNIOR RIDERS

The new Championship starts on Sunday 16 November 09.00am sign on 09.30am start. There is a new format for the races:-
Ages 8 - 11, plus beginners, on a short course adjacent to the start finish area which will be signposted. It will be a mass start first over the line is the winner.
Ages 12 - 16 will race in the adults handicap race around the long course which is not difficult but longer distance than they did last season.
It will be over 3 laps but if you only complete 1 lap you will still be given a position and championship points. We feel this type of race will improve the 12 - 16 class.
Over the Summer 12 year old Nick Corlett took part in the adults handicap series and came 5th overall which goes to show it can be done.
The idea is to complete as many laps a possible.
There will be 5 races over the Winter all at Archallagan which makes it easy to work out handicaps, and children can practice the course between races with parents.
All riders must wear a helmet, have a parent in attendance at all times and bring a drink.
Entry is £5 per child.
If you have a race number from last year please bring it with you and we need parents as marshals along the course.
Any questions can be answered by calling Chris on 853325 after 6pm.
Remember mountain biking is an extreme sport and you ride at your own risk.

This Weeks Racing Cancelled
